Research
In a report of summer temperatures in 60 of the largest U.S. cities, it was found that “Single-day urban temperatures in some metro areas were as much as 27°F higher than the surrounding rural areas, and on average across all 60 cities, the maximum single-day temperature difference was 17.5°F.” (Climate Central, 2014). For Hartford, temperatures were as much as 19°F higher than surrounding rural areas (Climate Central, 2014). This research is important because Hartford, the city I have lived in all my life, is facing this high temperature crisis and I am able to combat this issue by planting trees in Hartford with the Knox Foundation and Tree-Plenish.
